Summary
Over the weekend of 20–21 June 2026, during busy lunch and dinner periods, guests experienced slow responses at the checkout step on app and online ordering, and a small number saw temporary "Bad Gateway" errors. The slowdown was caused by our web ordering service reaching its capacity limits under peak demand.
Payments were unaffected and processed correctly. The main impact was slower checkout and some abandoned orders during the busiest periods. We have since identified the cause and put fixes in place that resolve it.
Scope
Kiosk, Online & App ordering.
Severity
Some customer sales have been affected to slow checkout during the affected periods, though ordering remained available and sales that completed were processed correctly.
Timeline
All timestamps and dates are CET.
- 20 June, 13:58 – Slow checkout reported during the lunch peak.
- 20 June, 14:13 – Conditions eased as the peak passed; slowdowns recurred at later peak periods.
- 21 June, 13:15 – Slow checkout reported again during the lunch peak.
- 21 June, 13:50 – Conditions eased.
Cause
- During peak demand, our web ordering service reached its capacity limits, which slowed the checkout step and, in a small number of cases, produced temporary gateway errors. The issue was within our own service; payment processing and other dependencies were unaffected.
Planned improvements
- Increased the capacity of our web ordering service.
- Separated the highest-demand workloads onto their own dedicated capacity so peak demand for one no longer affects the others.
