Prerequisites
- The Como integration is Active for the environment.
- You have access to the Como portal (Como's own back-office application) to create gifts and campaign rules. Exact Como UI steps are covered by Como's own documentation.
- You have access to the Frontend plugin configurator in Navigator, or a route to request these changes from Future Ordering. To grant or check app access, see Managing access to Navigator applications.
- The core
comoloyalty plugin is Active for the environment. For what this plugin does and how to access it, see the Como Plugin for Points & Rewards (Gifts) Feature documentation.
Steps
This guide spans the Como portal and the Frontend plugin configurator in Navigator. Create the gift and campaign rule in Como first; the frontend plugin references the asset tag created there.
The parameters below are used in this setup. For the full reference of every parameter and styling option, see the Como - User Journey Engagement Frontend Plugins article.
-
asset tag— a label in Como that identifies the gift (USER_REGISTRATION);comoRedeemuses it to find the gift for a customer. -
ItemsSelection— a Como gift flag that lets Future Ordering see which product the gift discounts. -
assetTag— thecomoRedeemparameter naming the gift to surface. -
addGiftToCartOnClick— thecomoRedeemparameter that adds the gift to the Basket on click when set totrue. -
Required query param— acomoRedeemparameter; the plugin loads only when this query parameter is present in the Future Ordering UI URL. Useful for testing. -
Channels— the channels the plugin is enabled on: FO App, Mobile browser, Desktop browser, Kiosk. Leave all unchecked to enable it on every channel. -
userVisibility— thecomoMarketingtargeting by user type (used here for the optional guest registration promo).
Phase 1 — Gift and campaign rule configuration in the Como portal
- In the Como portal, create a gift, give it a name (for example "Welcome Gift"), and set it to Active.
- Assign the asset tag
USER_REGISTRATIONto the gift using the tag field in the gift editor. - Enable the ItemsSelection flag on the gift.
- Under Discount, set the discount type to Free item, then choose the target product (a Single product) and quantity.
- Set a Limit on the gift (for example "Do this up to 1 times for the whole purchase").
- Create a campaign rule that grants the gift, with the trigger "User joins the program" and the action to grant the gift tagged
USER_REGISTRATION.
Phase 2 — Configure the frontend plugins
- Open the Frontend plugin configuration Navigator app, click Configure plugin, and choose comoRedeem with the latest available version (the highest version number).
- Set the plugin fields:
-
assetTag:USER_REGISTRATION -
addGiftToCartOnClick:true
-
- Configure the plugin theme and styling. For the available styling fields, see the Como - User Journey Engagement Frontend Plugins article.
- Configure the display location. For the available locations, see the Como - User Journey Engagement Frontend Plugins article.
- Configure the frontend plugin visibility and channels:
- Channels: Select sales channels where the plugin should be visible.
- Countries: Filter on specific country.
- Consent level: use the default.
- Required query param: leave empty for normal operation; it can be used for testing and verification (see Testing and verification).
- Require app tracking consent: use the default.
- Configure any required translations. For the available options, see the Como - User Journey Engagement Frontend Plugins article.
Additional options
These configurations are optional and extend the base welcome-gift setup.
Promote registration to guests
Configure a comoMarketing instance with userVisibility set to onlyGuest that links to the FO login page. This shows guests a prompt to register, encouraging them to create an account and become eligible for the welcome gift.
Expected Outcome
When a registered customer is logged in, the comoRedeem frontend plugin appears — for example, "Welcome to Future Burger! Smoothie is on us." — and clicking it adds the welcome product to the Basket.
Testing and verification
You can confirm the comoRedeem frontend plugin renders correctly without registering a real account, by forcing it to load with a query parameter.
- In the
comoRedeeminstance, set the Required query param field totestComoRedeem. The plugin then loads only when this parameter is present in the Future Ordering UI URL. - Under Channels, check Desktop browser. Leaving all channels unchecked enables the plugin on every channel.
- Open a browser and navigate to your environment URL with the parameter appended after the locale path — for example
<Future Ordering UI>/gb/en-gb?testComoRedeem. The plugin should render, letting you confirm its content and styling.
Troubleshooting
The most common failure is a comoRedeem frontend plugin that appears but adds nothing to the Basket when clicked. Confirm the gift in Como has the ItemsSelection flag enabled and that its free-item target is a Single product (see Known limitations).
