Tags and badges in Oracle Simphony EMC for Future Ordering

Oracle Simphony supports a tagging system, introduced in Simphony 18.2, that allows configuration values to be attached to menu item definitions as text labels. Future Ordering uses these tags to control how products, categories, containers, and special items behave and appear across the ordering channels — including which display mode a product uses, how configurators render in the guest-facing UI, and which items carry special roles such as collection details or order details.

Badges are a separate but related concept: they are images, such as allergen or sustainability logos, that appear overlaid on product images in the menu. Badges are configured using the same tag system, with a specific naming convention.

All tags described in this article are applied at the enterprise level in EMC and then assigned to individual menu item definitions as needed. Tags must be configured once before any menu item configuration that depends on them is possible.

How to access tags in EMC

Tags in Oracle Simphony are configured at the enterprise level. To access them, log in to EMC, select the Enterprise, open the Descriptors tab, and choose Tags. Create each tag listed in this article with the exact tag name shown and set the Tag Group to None for every Future Ordering tag — Tag Group configuration is not currently supported.

Important configuration note

Every Future Ordering tag must have its Tag Group set to None. Tags with a Tag Group value set will not be processed correctly by the integration.

Kiosk channel tags are not included in this article. If your deployment includes kiosk ordering, additional tags are required — contact Future Ordering support for the full kiosk tag list.

Badges

Badges are product support images — for example, vegan, low carbon, or "new" labels — that appear overlaid on product images in the guest-facing menu. They are customer-specific and not predefined by Future Ordering.

Every badge tag must follow one of these two naming conventions.

A base badge with no language variant uses the format fo:badge:<identifier>:<badge url> — for example, fo:badge:news:https://images.example.com/supportlogo/news-black.svg.

A badge with a language-specific variant uses the format fo:badge:<identifier>:<language>:<badge url> — for example, fo:badge:news:en-gb:https://images.example.com/supportlogo/en_news-black.svg. The language code must be a valid IETF language tag such as en-gb or sv-se.

When both a base badge and a language variant are defined for the same identifier, the language variant is used when the menu is rendered in that locale.

Category display tags

These tags control how categories appear in the guest-facing menu.

fo:web:category:show causes the category to appear in the categories overview section of the menu. Assign this tag to every top-level category that should be visible to guests.

fo:web:category:tab causes the category to appear as a tab in the kiosk category navigation. This tag applies only in kiosk mode.

fo:web:display:title:hidden hides the title of the item it is applied to. This tag applies to categories, subcategories, order details special products, and upsell items.

Configurator behaviour tags

Configurator tags control how the customisation screen for a product behaves when a guest adds it to their order.

fo:web:configurator:meal presents each child configuration as a separate column — suitable for combo meal products where the guest selects a burger, a side, and a drink in parallel.

fo:web:configurator:mealwizard presents child configurations as a step-by-step wizard. The guest must complete each choice before moving to the next. Similar to fo:web:configurator:meal but sequential rather than parallel.

fo:web:configurator:ignore hides a configuration level from the guest-facing configurator. Used on the main container of a combo meal when you do not want the container itself to appear as a configuration step.

fo:web:configurator:climbtotop moves a nested configuration to the root product level, treating it as if it were a direct choice on the main product. For example, this tag applied to a dip container inside a nuggets meal brings the dip selection up alongside the side and drink choices.

fo:web:configurator:expandsubconfigurationonselection hides child configuration options until the parent option is selected. Used when a choice reveals further options — for example, selecting "curbside" reveals the car information fields.

fo:web:configurationtype:mandatory marks a configuration as required — the guest cannot proceed without making a selection.

fo:web:configurationtype:singleselect marks a configuration as single-select — the guest can choose only one option from the list.

fo:web:configurationtype:multiselect marks a configuration as multi-select — the guest can toggle individual options on or off independently.

Product display tags

Product display tags control how individual products are rendered in the menu listing.

fo:web:productdisplay:regular displays the product in the default layout — full-width on desktop and as a list item on mobile. This is the default if no product display tag is set.

fo:web:productdisplay:emphasized displays the product in a large format on both desktop and mobile.

fo:web:productdisplay:emphasizedone displays a single product in a large format on both desktop and mobile.

fo:web:productdisplaymodifiers:medium-center centres products on screens wider than mobile.

fo:web:productdisplaymodifiers:medium-landscape-4 displays products in a four-column grid on screens wider than mobile.

fo:web:display:quickadd shows a quick-add button labelled "Add" in the product overlay after the guest clicks a product in the menu listing. Requires the parent product to also carry the fo:web:display:oneclickadd tag.

fo:web:display:oneclickadd displays the product as a single-tap add — a plus button that instantly adds the product without opening a configurator. Also requires fo:web:display:quickadd to be present, and must not be combined with fo:web:display:quickconfigurator.

fo:web:display:quickconfigurator shows a "Modify" button on the product. Requires fo:web:display:quickadd to also be present, and enables quick configurator choices in the overlay.

fo:web:display:singleselect allows selection of one child choice on the product.

fo:web:display:dropdown displays configuration options as a dropdown menu. Used on value card products.

fo:web:display:incrementer displays plus and minus buttons for counting a quantity up or down. Used on order details special products, gift card products, and product configurations.

fo:web:display:freetext displays a free-text input field. The guest's entry is stored in the item's Notes field. Used on order details special products.

fo:web:display:integer restricts a free-text field to integer input only. Must be combined with fo:web:display:freetext.

fo:web:display:autocomplete displays a text input with dropdown autocomplete, where the guest's typing is matched against the product's child choices. Used on order details special products.

fo:web:display:collapsed displays a section of configuration in a collapsed state by default. Used on order details special products.

fo:web:display:negateselection treats the choice as selected by default and strikes through the text when the guest deselects it. Used to represent removable default ingredients — for example, "No pickles". Adds a minus sign before the price if a price is attached.

fo:web:display:replaceparentontoggle replaces the parent product in the configurator column with the child product when the child is selected. Used primarily in wizard configurator flows.

fo:web:display:configurator enables configurator display for the product.

fo:web:display:disableonsubsequentorder hides the product's configuration on repeat orders. When the guest taps "Order something else" on the order status screen, this product's configuration is hidden. Used on order details special products.

Special product tags

Special product tags identify menu items that serve a structural or operational function in the order flow rather than being sellable products.

fo:web:specialproduct:orderdetails marks a product as the order details item — a container for customer-provided information such as allergen notes, number of guests, or plastic bag preference.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails marks a product as the collection details item, which controls how the guest specifies how they will collect their order. Requires at least one child collection type tag from the list below.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:pickup marks the child option as a pickup collection type.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:pickup:pickupzone marks the child option as a pickup zone selector within the pickup collection type.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:curbside marks the child option as a curbside collection type.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:curbside:carinfo marks the child option as the general car information field within curbside.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:curbside:regnumber marks the child option as the car registration number field within curbside.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:roomservice marks the child option as a room service collection type.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:roomservice:roomname marks the child option as the room name field within room service.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:tableservice marks the child option as a table service collection type.

fo:web:specialproduct:collectiondetails:tableservice:tablename marks the child option as the table name field within table service.

fo:web:specialproduct:requestcustomerarrivalstate enables the "I have arrived" button on the order status screen. This tag is required on the collection details product when curbside collection is configured.

fo:web:specialproduct:deliveryfeeproduct marks a product as the delivery fee line item, applied automatically when the order type is delivery.

fo:web:specialproduct:upsize marks a product as an upsize offer that upgrades the beverage and side order in a meal to larger sizes.

fo:web:product:metadata marks a product as a metadata carrier rather than a sellable item, allowing it to be distinguished from regular products in the order flow.

fo:web:product:valuecard:new marks a product as a new value card purchase.

fo:web:product:valuecard:refill marks a product as a value card refill.

Receipt tags

fo:web:receipt:hidden hides the tagged configuration item from the receipt shown to the guest. Apply this tag to configuration levels that should not appear on the final receipt — for example, internal order routing containers.

Kiosk-specific tags

The tags in this article cover the web ordering channel. Kiosk deployments require additional tags that are not listed here. Contact Future Ordering support for the full list of kiosk tags if your deployment includes the kiosk channel.

fo:web:category:tab is the only tag in this article that has kiosk-specific behaviour — it controls category tab display in the kiosk navigation bar.
